SIMPLE SELF-CARE

Self-care is something that has been spoken about a lot lately and I absolutely love this. It makes me so happy to see mental health and things surrounding it being spoken about more. Self-care is really really important. Everyone needs it. Self-care involves a lot of things. There are many things that come under the umbrella of self care – however, I’d like to go over some of the more simple ones.

TAKE A BATH OR SHOWER

Sometimes when I’m in a slump, simple things like showering become a chore. Go and run a nice warm bath, light a candle and just relax for a little bit. If I’m having a bad day with my anxiety I like to go for a cool shower and act like the water going down the drains takes all of my worries and anxieties away with it. I always feel loads better after having a wash, especially if I use a smell that cheers me up like marshmallow body wash.

WRITE IT ALL DOWN

Even if it makes absolutely no sense at all. No grammar, punctuation or anything is required. Just let the words stream out onto the page in a stream of consciousness manner. This always helps me because it takes the thoughts out of my head. Once I’ve written them down, I feel free of the thoughts. I usually like to write a page of stream of consciousness thoughts just to empty out my head so that I can start the day with a fresh head.

BAKE OR COOK SOMETHING YUMMY

Whenever I’m feeling a little bit down I love to do some baking. Creating something from nothing is a really good feeling. Also, it’s nice to share and start a conversation with someone. Sometimes creating something that is able to bring other people happiness can do wonders for how you feel. I know that when I see people smile because of something I’ve done, it really makes me feel good inside.

GO FOR A WALK

Walking is super therapeutic. Just stick your earphones in and let yourself walk to the beat of whatever you’re listening to. I tend to get really lost in the music and my surroundings. My favourite¬†thing is to go walking in a forest, the surroundings and vibes are just so calming to me. They make my soul happy.
