It seems like such a long time since I’ve written a post like this but these kind of posts are my favourite to pour my heart out into. Sometimes we all need to pick ourselves up, it’s just a part of life. I’m going to be talking a little generally about this but it can relate to many other situations whether it be an emotional pickup, motivational pickup or anything. I’m a person who gets overwhelmed easily and sometimes my emotions get the best of me (I am a Scorpio after all). I often need to pick myself up and get back on with what I need to be doing. Here are some of the ways I get myself back on track.
LET YOURSELF FEEL THE EMOTIONS
A lot of the time, we try and stop ourselves from feeling any negative emotions because we might feel ashamed or embarrassed about them, which is absolutely bizarre. We are all only human, we are allowed to have bad days. So if you need a day where you just sit down with your pj’s on and binge-watch episodes of Friend’s then let yourself do that.
FIGURE OUT WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
When I’ve had a bit of a wobble I like to just set out what needs to be done. You can do this with any timeframe in mind such as day, week or month. I find it’s a little less overwhelming when you plan what needs to be done for the next day or two. You don’t want to be putting too much pressure on yourself. TAKE IT SLOW
As mentioned in the previous point, you don’t want to be putting too much pressure on yourself. I am a perfectionist and I pick at every single detail so when I have a lot to do, I focus on one thing at a time, I break the task down and take it slowly. I allow myself enough time to get stuff done but also to get it done to a standard that makes me proud. Try not to rush everything and just learn to plan ahead and take your time.
TALK TO SOMEONE
One of the best things that can help you feel better when you’re feeling down is a good chat with someone. Even if you don’t talk about how you’re feeling overwhelmed, sometimes just a chat can help lift the weight of our shoulders. Drop someone a text or go out for a coffee, it can really help make you feel loads better. I’m the hugest introvert ever and even I need a good heart-to-heart with someone.
