Instagram is like this mystical thing where no one really knows what’s going on but we’re all kinda taking a guess. Everyone is just taking jabs and seeing what actually works. Instagram is the social media that I struggle with the most because I can’t just shove up a random photo as I would on Twitter with a tweet. I like my Instagram to be cohesive and kinda organised. Now while I don’t have loads of followers nor do I get thousands of likes per photo but I’m at a place where I’m happy with my feed. To me being happy with your social media is way more important than the stats so in this post, I’m going to talk you through my Instagram process.

I use a few different apps for my feed. The apps I use for editing photos are Lightroom and Color Story. And the app I use to plan my feed is Planoly. I use these apps because they’re very accessible and easy for beginners to use. There’s nothing too difficult going on. Also, they are all free to download, you can pay for a few extras but the bog standard versions do me well. Here are a few other apps you might also want to try out VSCO Cam, Polarr, Feedr, Preppr and Mosaic.

Obviously, you’re going to need some photos for your feed so my advice would be to get mixtures of planned and organic shots. Sometimes I’ll be walking along and notice a pretty building and snap a photo of it, other times I’ll have a flatlay set up to take photos of. Try and build up a little album so that you always have photos to plan with. You don’t need anything fancy for your photos either, I just use my iPhone 8. Don’t feel like you have to go out and buy a DLSR because you really don’t.

I’m not going to talk too much about how I edit my own photos because we all have our own individual style. Editing is a vital part of the Instagram process because it can really transform your photos and help them stick to your aesthetic (if you have one). I almost always play about with the brightness, contrast and saturation.  Some people go in a little harder with editing but I am a complete novice so my skills are limited. After a bit of tweaking, I throw a filter on there. My favourite filter pack is called Fawn on Colour Story.

I like to schedule my photos in advance because I always seem to forget to actually post them. This has been a big help with increasing my followers as I’m being loads more active. It also takes away a lot of the decision fatigue involved in actually posting because the caption is written, tags are added in and the location is on there already. I don’t have to lift another finger after it’s scheduled.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope this might be able to help you with your Instagram. I am by no means an expert but my little system seems to be working! See you tomorrow for a new post. Have a lovely day and stay beautiful.

Lots of loves,
