When it comes to saving money, I am probably the worst person in the world. Money just seems to burn a hole in my pocket. Being crap with money and being a student is a recipe for disaster. That’s why I’ve been making little changes to my spending habits in order to make sure that I don’t run out of dosh so quickly.
HAVE A SAVINGS ACCOUNT
Captain obvious strikes again! No, but seriously I went without a savings account for a long time and it really didn’t benefit me. I could see all my money in one place and this meant that I thought that money was there to be spent. Now I have two savings accounts – one which is an emergency fund and another which is my savings for buying a place. Having the two accounts lets me hide my money from myself. If your crap with your money like me then my biggest tip is to hide your money from yourself. Out of sight, out of mind.
GIVE YOURSELF A REASON
Lay down a few reasons why you’re trying to save money. Is it for a holiday? A house? Or just in case an emergency like your phone breaking? Give your savings account a purpose and this will help you not to touch it. When money has no purpose it often gets wasted so when you go to dip into that money you can remind yourself what it’s going towards.
KEEP YOURSELF IN CHECK
Whenever you feel like a little dip into your savings account, remind yourself what that money is for. Think about how you’ll feel when you reach your savings target and are able to do what you wanted to with your savings. Think of the new car. The first house with your partner. That holiday to Mexico. But also, question your spending. Do you need that new pair of shoes? Is another toner necessary? I spoke a little more about what I’m not buying into in 2019 in this post, it may give you a hand with what purchases to question.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you got something from this post that can help you save up a little more. It’s pretty short but it’ll do. Have a lovely day and stay beautiful.
