MY EXPERIENCE GOING SELF-HOSTED

About a month ago I took the leap and went self-hosted. It was a mega jump for me but one that needed to be made. For me, proper commitment comes when I start investing in something – whether that investment is time, money or effort. Going self-hosted is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time but it took me a while to realise that I was ready to make a proper investment.

THE REASON

The main reason is that I wanted to put some proper investment into my blog.  Going through the self-hosted process was the next big step for me in terms of investing in my blog. I’d proved to myself that I could put the time and energy into it so for me, it was time to take the next logical step. Another reason is that one of my 2o19 resolutions was to start taking my blog more seriously so this again was a good step to take.

THE COST

I was already aware that this process would be a little pricey but it wasn’t actually as bad as I had thought originally. The swap from Blogger over to WordPress cost £95 with Pipdig. I couldn’t recommend them enough honestly. It’s definitely worth the money. My hosting with SiteGround cost £45 for the first year which again didn’t seem too terrible to me.

THE PROCESS

Phil made this process so easy for me. When I first was thinking about it I thought that it was going to be really difficult to move everything and I was worried that I might lose some stuff in the process. Using Pipdig meant it was taken out of my very inexperienced hands and put into Phil’s very capable hands. I never lost anything during the process – everything was intact. It was such a smooth task.

THE OUTCOME

I really couldn’t be happier with the outcome of the migration. With WordPress, I have a lot more flexibility. I feel like WordPress has better statistics. Sometimes on Blogger, they used to be really strange and skewed. Also, my blog feels a lot more professional! I’ve had lots of comments about how my blog looks amazing.

Thank you so much for reading. If you’re thinking of going through the migration then I 100% recommended Pipdig! They were absolutely amazing. Have a lovely day and stay beautiful.
