I probably spend about twelve out of twenty-four hours of my day listening to music. For years I have said that music is my best friend and it’s still true now because I’ve always got an earphone in. One of my joys in life is showing people the artists that I’m currently loving so I thought I’d turn that into a series! So here’s the first edition of my monthly playlist.
Sally Walker – Iggy Azalea
I’ve always kind of liked Iggy, she’s not my favourite female rap artist but she’s pretty good. I actually thought I could hear a lot of improvement in her skills within this song which made me happy to know that she’s working on her technique. This song is a grower and it caught me by complete surprise. It’s become my new morning song because it gets me fired up and ready to slay my day. Also, if my funeral isn’t like the one in the music video for this song, I ain’t dying.
NCAA – 2 Chainz
Back when I was around fourteen I discovered 2 Chainz through listening to Drake and Lil Wayne and I used to absolutely love him. Especially around when Based on a T.R.U Story dropped because that album smacked. I’ve not really listened to much from him until Pretty Girls Like Trap Music dropped and it reignited my obsession. NCAA is such a tune and it’s one of them that gets you riled up and ready to go. Also, the mix of the beat and the guitars is divine, I love it.
My Bad – Khalid
The first time I listened to this song it just screamed summer to me. It just has that flowy, vibey kinda feeling to it, y’know? Khalid is a 2019 favourite of mine and he genuinely hasn’t created a song that I dislike yet so he’s on a roll. I just can’t get over his voice. He has a very similar vibe to Usher, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean on some of their tracks and that’s the kind of R&B that I love. He just has a dreamy voice and his lyrics are brilliant.
Run Away – dvsn
I found this song completely by accident, I’d finished a playlist and it was a recommended song and instantly my mind was like ‘Oh The Weeknd released something new’. It wasn’t until I went on Spotify to add it to my playlist that I realised it wasn’t Abel and I was shook. Ever since I have been bumping this song. It’s got a kinda dark but seductive feel to it if you get me. This song was released in 2017 so I’m super late to the party but happy to be here nonetheless.
Dead – Madison Beer
Okay, this is another one released in 2017. I usually pride myself on being pretty up to date on the music scene but clearly, I’m slacking. This song is such a bop and it would make a brilliant break-up anthem. I’m slowly falling in love with Madison’s music and I cannot wait to see what 2019 brings for her. It’s got those lyrics that you can’t help but shout out because we can all kinda relate to the situation in the song and it does some healing for the soul haha.
Old Town Road Remix – Lil Nas X ft Billy Ray Cyrus
I feel like some people are going to think that adding this to this playlist is a joke but I’m being fully serious when I say that I love this. It’s just so unique and I’ve never heard anything like this. When I saw it shared on Twitter I had to go and listen to it. It’s just so catchy and it’s genuinely a bop. And who knew that Billy Ray could do us like that? I don’t think anyone will ever beat this feature I’ll be honest. If you haven’t already, give it a listen, you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed a little look into what I’ve been listening to this month. I can’t wait to see what makes it onto the next month’s list.
