Well, August has quickly rolled around and as I predicted, the bops are a-dropping. Some big names have released some amazing tracks along with some smaller, fresher people who have dropped equally good bops. I was going to make this list super long but I decided to narrow it down into my absolute favourites. Music gets really good around this time of year so there is some amazing songs dropping.
MOOD 4 EVA – Beyonce, Jay-Z and Childish Gambino
Bey dropped her new album a few days before the Lion King was released and it truly is a gift to music. I’m a huge Beyonce fan and I especially love where her and Jay-Z team up for a track because they have so much natural chemistry. It just seems right. The Afro-inspired beats in this song are phenomenal and because it’s a type of beat that I don’t hear all that often, I love it even more.
LOVE AGAIN – Daniel Caesar and Brandy
If you’ve read one of my monthly playlist posts before then you’ll be aware of my love for R&B. It’s a genre that has such a special place in my musical soul. With a heavenly backing track behind them, Daniel and Brandy’s voices mesh so well together. I love how the lyrics sound like their having a conversation, it takes me back to Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s Dilemma.
Summertime in Paris – Jaden and Willow
Jaden Smith recently released ERYS and I’m just trying to work my way through the tracklist at the mo’. But this one keeps jumping out at me. With Jaden and Willow being siblings I feel like they have that natural chemistry like Bey and Jay (except sibling chemistry, not marriage chemistry). Some people have criticised their use of autotune in this and I would usually not like that if it was to cover up their voices. However, in their case, I feel like the autotune is used to add to the vibe of the song.
BITCH – Lennon Stella
I’m utterly obsessed with anything that Lennon Stella releases lately. Every single bop that she drops is fire. Her voice is bloody amazing. There is a clever use of sound within this song which I love because the beat sounds unlike anything I’ve heard before. Lennon Stella emulates this new wave of pop music that seems to be emerging and I bloody love it.
Boyfriend – Ariana Grande and Social House
If you had to ask me who my favourite female artist was this year, it would hands down be Ariana. She is 110% killing it right now and she’s having the best time doing it. I actually wasn’t expecting this drop so when I first heard it, I was super surprised. The lyrics of the song do well with summarising most modern relationships. It’s another one of those conversational songs which I live for. Social House is new on my radar so I’ll be looking out for some more from them on my music radar.
♡ What are you listening to in August?
“I don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made, because of every choice I’ve made, I’ve learned something new” – Ariana Grande.
Until next time,
