I’ve had a loooong break from university and I’m honestly, so ready to be back and to have a routine again. Other than going to Krakow at the start of this month and having a visit with Liam in June, my time off has been pretty uneventful. I’ve done lots of blogging, lots of napping and lots of watching things. So, I thought I’d share with you what I’ve watched over the (almost) five months that I’ve had off. *Note: other than Game of Thrones, all of these shows are on Netflix.
Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones season eight started around the same time that I left so naturally I binged watched them all and then watched the new season. I absolutely love Game of Thrones, so much so that I wrote a post all about the life lessons I got from it. I’ve loved every single season of this show and even though it didn’t end how I had expected it to, it was absolutely amazing. It’s a show that I’ll probably watch again and again throughout my lifetime.
Favourite Characters: Sandor Clegane aka The Hound and Arya Stark.
I’ve loved Peep Show for absolutely ages. The characters are so well-played and it’s just a brilliant piece of British television. I’ve watched about six seasons since I’ve been off uni and it’s just one of those shows I watch when I want a bit of a laugh.
Favourite Character: Mark Corrigan.
When They See Us
I watched this series in a whole day and it broke my heart. I’d never heard of this case before but it reminds me a lot of the Kalief Browder case. It’s a series played by characters but it’s based on a story that’s 100% true. It’s a very hard series to watch but it’s an important one. The story of these men should never ever be forgotten.
Favourite Character: All of the actors who played the men as both teens and men but Jharrel Jerome did an amazing job playing Korey Wise as both a teenage boy and a grown man.
Dead to Me
If you’re a lover of dark comedy then I 100% recommend that you watch this! Linda Cardellini is one of my favourite actresses ever and paired with Christina Applegate I was belly laughing. It’s such a bittersweet series to watch but definitely worth a watch.
Favourite Character: Judy Hale.
The Confession Tapes
True-crime is my favourite genre of television to watch so when I found out that season two of The Confession Tapes was up I opened my Netflix app and started watching right away. I love this show because it makes me question my morals. Most of the cases mentioned are solved purely on the basis of the confession so it’s hard to know if they’re actually guilty or not.
Favourite Character: I couldn’t pick one for this because there are no characters.
I bloomin’ love Queer Eye. I’ve watched it since the first season and I’m pretty sure I’ve cried at every episode. I love that it’s focused on giving mostly men makeovers. Most makeover shows are centred on women and men deserve to feel confident and pampered too.
Favourite Characters: Jonathon Van Ness and Tan France.
This is a really interesting documentary about a group of religious people called The Family and they basically try to get people into power. I don’t want to ruin it but if you’re a fan of conspiracy theories then you should give this a watch because it’s so interesting.
Favourite Characters: It’s a documentary so I don’t really have a favourite character in this.
I Am a Killer
As I mentioned before, I am a huge fan of true-crime so when I saw this, I watched the first episode right away. I quite enjoy listening to the killer’s talk. Often the documentaries I watch are from the point of view of a psychologist. Not that that isn’t interesting but there’s something so intriguing hearing them talk about their crimes.
Favourite Characters: Not my favourite because he’s an abhorrent human but the most interesting to listen to was James Robertson.
This is another show that I’ve loved for absolutely ages! It’s so nice to see a show based quite close to where I live and where most of my family come from. Most gangster shows are either US-based or set in London so seeing this is amazing. The acting is superb. The mix of well-known actors and people getting their first roles in amazing. I just have so much love for this show and I’ll be gutted when it ends.
Favourite Characters: Tommy Shelby, Polly Gray and Johnny Dogs.
